Program Description

The Foundational Level General Science Preparation Institute will prepare teachers to earn a Foundational Level General Science (FLGS) California Teaching Credential. The Summer Institute will provide intensive review of science concepts and CSET test preparation. The FLGS Credential authorizes teaching integrated science through 8th grade and general science at the high school level (as opposed to college-prep high school biology, chemistry, or physics).

The FLGS  Preparation Institute at Sonoma State University will:

  • Actively engage participants in a hands-on review of core life science, physical science, and earth and space science ideas that are all  aligned to Next Generation Science Standards and prepare teachers for the CSET Subtest 1
  • Help participants plan and assess core science ideas in ways that integrate science and engineering practices (meeting the required secondary science method course)
  • Help participants support diverse learners when teaching science
  • Cover fees such as SSU Extended Education class fees, reimburse the test registration fees, and credential filing fees. (Participant pays for textbooks.)
