Maricela Ibarra was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. She came to the US at the age of twelve. She holds an AA Degree from SRCJ, a BA in Chicano Latino Studies, and MA in Education with a concentration in Curriculum Teaching and Learning, both from Sonoma State University. Maricela joined the School of Education in 2003. As the Senior Credential & Student Services Coordinator, she oversees program admissions, candidate certification, and is the direct liaison with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). 

Maricela serves on SSU’s Affinity Group- Alianza for Equity as the Co-Chair, is a member of the President’s HSI Advisory Council, member of the President’s Advisory Council (PAC) on Diversity, Equity, Campus Climate, and Inclusion, board member of the Latino Alliance of Rohnert Park Cotati, and the Representative for Institution of Higher Education with Credential Counselors and Analysts of California (CCAC).

Maricela is passionate about social justice, diversity and inclusion. She is an Undocu-Ally and Safe Zone Ally. Additionally, she coordinates Raza Graduation, and helps coordinate the Tu Eres la Diferencia conference and the Latino Family Summit.
