Added Authorizations

Sonoma State University’s School of Education supports coursework leading to two distinct added authorizations: the Bilingual Authorization in Spanish and the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization. Both of them can be added to any teaching credential (multiple subjects, single subject, or education specialist). SOE also offers Early Childhood Special Education Added Authorization. The ECSE-AA is only available if you have an existing Educational Specialist credential.

Candidates interested in the Bilingual Authorization may embed some of the required courses in their undergraduate experience, or they may pursue this authorization as part of their teaching credential.

The Reading and Literacy Added Authorization can be completed after earning a credential. The 15 units of coursework for the Reading and Literacy Added Authorization may be applied toward the MA in Education degree offered by the SSU School of Education.
